Acadia Divinity College Welcomes Dr. Spencer Boersma as Assistant Professor of Theology

Dr. Spencer Boersma

The President and the Board of Trustees of Acadia Divinity College are pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Dr. Spencer Boersma as the Assistant Professor of Theology. Dr. Boersma will begin at the College on August 20, 2018.

Since 2013, Spencer has served as the Lead Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Sudbury, Ontario. He is an accredited ordained minister recognized by the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec.  In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Spencer is Assistant Chaplain and a part-time faculty member at Thorneloe University. His teaching includes Introduction to Christian Theology, Systematic Theology, New Testament Studies, Christian Ethics, and Eschatology. He has also provided leadership in the Supervised Field Placement Program.

Spencer earned his ThD in 2017 from Wycliffe College, University of Toronto. His dissertation entitled, “The Baptist Vision: Narrative Theology and Baptist Identity in the Thought of James Wm. McClendon, Jr.” is scheduled to be published by Wipf and Stock in 2019. His research interests include narrative theology, Baptist identity, theological methodology, and systematic theology.

Since 2013, his pastoral leadership of the First Baptist Church Sudbury has resulted in deeper community within the congregation as well as numerical growth of the church. He has been keenly interested in Baptist Association and Convention life and is sought out as one to address and facilitate conversations around potentially divisive issues. His love for the local church and theological dialogue on the church’s purpose will enable him to speak well into the lives of those who are being prepared for pastoral leadership.

Spencer is originally from southern Ontario and is married to Meagan. They have a young family of five boys and a busy household.  His interests and hobbies include hiking, board games, movies, and building Lego with his sons.

Please join the President and the Board in welcoming Spencer to Acadia Divinity College.
