- The Seven Sacred Teachings

Spirituality was central to Mi’kmaq culture and society. The Seven Sacred Teachings provided a guide for living in harmony with one another and with creation and were handed down through oral tradition from one generation to the next. Each teaching centred on a virtue – Courage, Wisdom, Respect, Love, Honesty, Truth, and Humility – and was associated with a representative animal that could be used in story-telling as a way of sharing cultural values and beliefs.
