1710 - British Conquest of Acadia

Also referred to as the “Siege of Port Royale,” the series of English military actions that took place from October 5-13, 1710, led to the English gaining control over mainland Acadia (modern-day Nova Scotia). Following this conquest, the English found themselves in an unfamiliar and “wild” environment alongside the Indigenous Mi’kmaq, whom they “relegated to the peripherals of colonial society.”
