1860 - Emergence of the Acadia Ladies’ Seminary in Wolfville

The Ladies’ Seminary, founded in the late 19th century, was established to provide advanced education for women under Baptist leadership, while Acadia College (now University) originally was founded to train Baptist ministers. Both institutions were part of the same Baptist vision for higher education in Wolfville, shared overlapping governance, faculty networks, and denominational support, and together reflected how Baptist leaders promoted theological education for clergy and formal education for women within a single institutional ecosystem.
