Vipin Joseph travelled to Nova Scotia from India in September 2023 to pursue theological studies at Acadia Divinity College. During his time at ADC, he became known for his thoughtful leadership, commitment to Christian service, and deep appreciation for the diverse community that shapes the College. The following is his reflection, delivered at the Commissioning Service, offered on behalf of the Class of 2026.

Good evening, everyone.

To God be the glory, the One who continues to do immeasurably more than we could ever ask, dream, or imagine.

It is an honour to offer this reflection on behalf of the graduating class of 2026, reflecting the spirit and shared experience of our class.

At the beginning of our journey at Acadia Divinity College, many of our lives were squeezed into just a few suitcases as we travelled from different continents, countries, and provinces across Canada. This journey was a deliberate surrender, a faithful response to the call God placed upon our lives.

We have often been asked, “Why did you choose ADC?” Perhaps it may sound arrogant to reply, “Why not?” Yet looking back on this journey, we can confidently say, “For anyone considering theological education, ADC deserves to be at the top of your list.”

ADC has been deeply invested in the life of every student. ADC has never been about identifying a few brilliant minds or gifted speakers, placing them on a pedestal, and neglecting the rest.

At ADC, every student is seen, heard, valued, and deeply loved.

In a world shaped by AI, anyone can appear impressive when given a platform. But at ADC, we have been formed to become faithful and humble servants of Jesus Christ, even when no one is watching. Such formation matters, because we live in a world increasingly marked by leadership without character, influence without integrity, and ministry without accountability.

As the graduating class of 2026, we have learned that the heart of true leadership is faithfulness to God and love for his creation. We have seen such leadership in countless unsung heroes in our lives. We stand here tonight because of their sacrificial investment and steadfast support.

ADC is blessed with a remarkable faculty and staff whose lives reflect not only professional excellence, but also the sacrificial love of Christ. Throughout our journey, your faithfulness has been revealed not merely through words, but through humble and consistent acts of service. We have seen you walk across campus picking up litter, shovel pathways through harsh winters, clean unnoticed spills, and faithfully serve behind the scenes without seeking recognition. We have watched you endure sickness, pain, personal struggles, and difficult seasons, yet you continued serving this community with grace, humility, and unwavering dedication.

We will also forever remain deeply indebted to the wider ADC community, the Board, the CBAC, mentors, our churches, supporters, and generous donors who have stood beside us through every season. Thank you for believing in our calling, for carrying our burdens, and for embracing our dreams as your own. Your investment in our lives has been far more than financial; it has been an outpouring of faith, love, and grace.

Behind every graduate here tonight stand countless people who carried us along the journey: parents who gave selflessly, families who prayed faithfully, spouses and children who bore hidden burdens, friends and church families who strengthened us when quitting seemed easier, and even strangers who entered our lives and became more than family. Your love carried us while this moment was still a distant dream. Thank you!

Dear fellow graduates, together we have walked through grief, loss, transitions, disappointments, sacrifices, uncertainty, and sleepless nights. Some among us carried silent tears while still answering God’s call with courage. Yet through it all, the God who called us has remained faithful.

Many of us began this journey with only a few suitcases in our hands, leaving behind homes, nations, careers, comforts, and familiar places. But tonight, as we are commissioned to serve Christ, we leave carrying treasures no suitcase could ever contain: friendships forged in prayer, wisdom shaped through struggle, memories marked by grace, and a deeper understanding of the faithfulness of God. This moment is a testament to what God can do when he gathers the Global South and the Global North together as a unified witness of his love.

For some of us, this evening also carries a quiet ache, as we miss loved ones we deeply wished could be here tonight. Yet amid the praise, prayer, tears of joy, warm embraces, and heartfelt laughter filling this historic place, we are reminded that none of us stands alone. Our love for one another remains one of the clearest witnesses that we belong to Christ. We belong to something far greater than ourselves: a future held securely in the love of the Father, the grace of the Son, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

So let us go as faithful servants of Jesus Christ, not pursuing power, but walking in humility; not surrendering to darkness, but serving with integrity, justice, and compassion; not responding with hatred, but bearing witness to the transforming love of the Gospel.

And wherever God may lead us, may our lives continue to reflect Christ faithfully until he returns or calls us home.
