Give with Purpose

Dear Friends,

We approach the Christmas season seeking an encounter with joy in a continuing period of uncertainty and turmoil. Like those who experienced the first Christmas, joy breaks into our lives in miraculous and unexpected ways when we come face to face with Jesus. I think of the baby in Elizabeth’s womb who leapt with joy at the encounter with a yet unborn Saviour. Much was uncertain, and there was much to fear, but when they met Jesus, they experienced true joy, prompting the angels to sing of the joy that would be for all people.

Our students are called to bring the joy of Jesus to people’s lives, in the midst of a chaotic world. One such student is Matthew Opayinka.  Born in Nigeria, Matthew’s call to pastoral ministry led him to the Nigerian Baptist Seminary where he earned a Bachelor of Theology degree. He served as a missionary intern and in various churches throughout Nigeria, developing a deep passion for all God’s people, especially those not engaged with a church.

Along with his wife and two young children, Matthew left Nigeria to further his education in North America. He made his way to Acadia Divinity College where he is enrolled in the Master of Arts (Theology) program with a specialization in Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care. “There are many people who need the Lord who are outside the doors of our churches. Wherever the Lord leads me next, I want to be prepared to reach people in our communities where they are. I believe my training at ADC will equip me to do just that.”

Reflecting on the journey that brought him to Acadia Divinity College, Matthew says “I have experienced great joy since coming to ADC. I’ve found a friendly and safe community that has welcomed me in. I’m also very thankful for the financial assistance we as students receive. It is a great help and blessing.”

A gift to Acadia Divinity College this Christmas will help students like Matthew be equipped to introduce people to Jesus, bringing deep and lasting joy to the world they are called to serve.

Wishing you the joy of Christmas,

Dr. Anna Robbins
