Quiet Reading Room
Vaughan Memorial Library, Acadia University

You are invited to join the Acadia Centre for Baptist and Anabaptist Studies and the Department of History and Classics in celebrating the release of three volumes of published works and selected writings of Walter Rauschenbusch. The general editor for this series was Dr. Bill Brackney, Professor Emeritus at Acadia University, Adjunct Professor in the Department of History and Classics, past Director of the Acadia Centre for Baptist and Anabaptist Studies, and Millard R. Cherry Distinguished Professor of Christian Thought and Ethics, Emeritus, Acadia Divinity College.

This three-volume collection of articles and primary sources that explores the life and work of Walter Rauschenbusch, a famous American theologian who advocated for the Social Gospel, a message of Christian responsibility to the poor and disadvantaged in Progressive Era America. Instead of charity, Rauschenbusch envisioned a kind of social reconstruction that would eradicate the sources of inequality, poverty, and the immiseration of America’s largely immigrant, working poor. The issues with which Rauschenbusch wrestled once again define contemporary America. Come listen to one our preeminent scholars shed light on this remarkable figure and hist continuing relevance today.
