History of Christianity in North America

Designation: CHUR 7253

This course examines the history of Christianity in Canada and the United States from their beginnings to the present day. It explores Christian faith as it relates to European settlement and indigenous communities; awakenings and wars; movements for missions, evangelism, and social reform; the development of fundamentalism, evangelicalism, and Pentecostalism; and recent events related to church and state; among other topics. The course notes influences, similarities, and differences between Christian history in the United States and Canada, with special attention given to the Canadian context.

  • Completion of, or concurrent enrolment in, CHUR 5013 Introduction to Christian History
