Dynamics of Congregational Renewal in a Changing SocietyDesignation: DMIN 8443
Amid dramatic societal changes, how can congregations be both spiritually vital and missionally effective? How can local churches overcome cherished traditions and organizational structures and out-dated buildings that may have been effective in previous generations but that now prevent the church from being the community that God calls it to be? How do traditional congregations whose members have aged engage younger generations in mission and ministry? What should be the role of digital media in the spiritual life of the congregation and in its witness? This course will examine congregational renewal from Biblical and sociological perspectives, considering the internal spiritual life of the congregation, the increasingly skeptical society to which the church has been called to be a witness, and the pastors and leaders whose task is to lead, mentor, and guide local congregations to renewed vision and effective ministry.
