Acadia Divinity College is offering a new course this spring with a focus on Children’s Ministry. This is part of the expanding Next Generation course offerings, which also include courses in youth ministry and camping ministry. This course will be taught online by Dr. Jody Linkletter from May 25-29, 2020, and is open to students taking it for credit at either the Bachelor or the Master’s level. It is also available for individuals who would like to audit the course in order to enhance their thinking, reflecting and ministry practice of Children’s Ministry.
Children’s Ministry is an important and essential piece to the life of the church. This course will allow students to think purposefully about children’s ministry and to examine ways to launch and develop contextually rooted, safe, and welcoming ministries. Attention will be given to administrative and organizational components needed for implementation, as well as skills that are critical for leading children’s ministry in today’s culture. It will examine ways to support and reach families, cultivate intergenerational ministry opportunities and ways to support children with diverse needs. Different biblical and theological rationales will be examined along with a variety of ministry models and philosophies.
“Adding a course in children’s ministry allows ADC to expand its training in Next Generation Ministries. It is important for leaders to be able to understand they ‘why’ of children’s ministry and the important role churches have in shaping children. I am excited that we are offering this opportunity for students, pastors and leaders who would like to take time to reflect on children’s ministry in their local context as well as their ministry practice with children.” – Dr. Jody Linkletter.
This course is offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
