Applying 1 Timothy to the Church

After presenting an overview of the scholarly theories of the authorship of the Pastoral Letters, the professor will present the reasons why she accepts the Apostle Paul as the author. An overview will be given of Paul’s life and of the archaeology of Ephesus. The course will explore the nature of the false teachings at Ephesus and Crete. A chapter by chapter exposition of 1 Timothy will be presented. The course will encourage interaction with the New Testament, focusing on 1 Timothy, and develop applications to Christian life today, particularly to the church, and with special attention to the leadership of women and men in the church. Greek New Testament is not required for this class but it can be used by those who already have this knowledge.
